La cantante estadounidense Liv Warfield ofrecerá un tercer concierto dentro de la programación del 30º Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más. Esta nueva cita se celebrará el sábado 24 de julio en The Paper Club (Calle Remedios 10, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), a partir de las 15.00 horas. Las entradas ya están a la venta, al precio de 15 euros, en tickety.es. Antes, Warfield actuará en la Plaza de Santa Ana el jueves 22 y un día después en Puerto de la Cruz (Lago Martianez), conciertos para los que ya no quedan entradas disponibles.

Asistir a un concierto de Liv Warfield es como ver a Tina Turner, Sade y James Brown en una sola persona, una experiencia memorable. Su arrolladora presencia escénica unida a una poderosa voz han sido claves para que a lo largo de su carrera haya trabajado junto a iconos como Lionel Richie, Cyndi Lauper, Nancy Wilson o el mismísimo Prince. Nacida en Peoria, Illinois, desde 2016 gira con Roadcase Royale, una banda formada con Nancy Wilson, Ryan Waters (el director musical del trabajo en solitario de Warfield y protegido de Prince), el teclista de Heart Chris Joyner, el bajista Dan Rothchild y el baterista Ben Smith.

En 2009 fue precisamente Prince el que la llamó para que se incorporase como vocalista en su banda y, después de varios años de gira con el genio de Minneapolis, Warfield lanzó al mercado The Unexpected, album producido por Prince y por el que ganaría un premio Soul Train en 2014 y numerosas nominaciones, incluida la de mejor artista novel de la prestigiosa cadena de televisión norteamericana BET. Ha participado en reconocidos programas de televisión como The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman y Jimmy Kimmel Live, el Show de Arsenio Hall, entre otros muchos.

Warfield creció como hija de un diácono pentecostal, escuchando música gospel, en un entorno estricto que no le permitía escuchar música secular; solía cantar canciones de Whitney Houston para sí misma cuando sus padres no estaban cerca. En sus inicios, ocultó su actividad como cantante a sus padres, de hecho, se ponía tan nerviosa cuando actuaba que lo hacía de espaldas al público.

En 2006, Warfield lanzó su primer álbum, Embrace Me, una colección de baladas. Su carrera musical cambia en 2009 tras ser seleccionada como miembro de Prince’s New Power Generation. Prince se interesó por ella tras ver un video suyo interpretando Gimme Shelter de The Rolling Stones. Estuvo de gira con la banda durante cinco años. Su segundo álbum en solitario, The Unexpected fue lanzado a principios de 2014 con Prince como su productor ejecutivo (también escribió el tema que da título al álbum) y con la colaboración de la banda New Power Generation tocando los vientos. Tras la muerte de Prince, Warfield actuó en Celebration 2017, un tributo que duró varios días y que se llevó a cabo un año después de su muerte, en Paisley Park.

En 2014, la actuación de Liv en el Essence Festival era reconocida tanto por la crítica como por los fans como uno de los shows más sobresalientes de la historia del festival de Nueva Orleans. Liv es una de las artistas que participan en el próximo álbum con material inédito de Prince, titulado Welcome 2 America; además de colaborar también en el nuevo disco del proyecto francés Joon Moon. Actualmente, Liv Warfield se encuentra grabando su nuevo album cuyo lanzamiento está previsto para principios de 2022, y del que ya se puede escuchar su primer single, Mantra.

Within the programme of the 30th Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más, the American singer Liv Warfield will offer a third concert. This new event will be held on Saturday 24 July at The Paper Club (Calle (Street) Remedios 10, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), starting at 15.00 hours. Entrance tickets are now on sale, price 15 euros, on tickety.es. Before that, Warfield will perform in the public square of Santa Ana on Thursday 22 and the following day in Puerto de la Cruz (Lago Martíanez), but no tickets are available for these concerts.

Attending a Liv Warfield show is like watching Tina Turner, Sade and James Brown all in one, a memorable experience. Her powerful voice and enormous stage presence have been key as to why over the course of her career she has worked alongside icons like Lionel Richie, Cyndi Lauper, Nancy Wilson & Prince himself. Born in Peoria, Illinois, she was part of Prince’s New Power Generation and as of since the year 2016 she is with Roadcase Royale, a band formed with Nancy Wilson, Ryan Waters (a proteg’e of Prince & Warfield’s musical director for her solo performances), Chris Joyner, keyboard player of ‘Heart’, bassist Dan Rothchild and drummer Ben Smith.

In the year, 2009 Prince himself called her to join his band as a vocalist and, after a spate of several years on tour with the whiz from Minneapolis, Warfield released The Unexpected, an album produced by Prince which would win the ‘Soul Train’ award in 2014 and many other nominations, including the prestigious TV channel ‘BET’ television Best New Artist. She has participated in a number of well-known TV programmes, such as The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live & the Arsenio Hall Show, among many others.

Warfield grew up the daughter of a Pentecostal deacon, listening to gospel music, in a strict background that didn’t allow her to listen to secular music; she used to sing Whitney Houston songs to herself when her parents weren’t around. She also hid her interest in public singing from them, and in fact was so nervous on her first try that she sang with her back to the audience.

In 2006 Warfield released her first album, Embrace Me, a collection of ballads. Her musical career took off in 2009 after being selected as the newest member of Prince’s New Power Generation two months after he took interest in a submitted video of her performing The Rolling Stones’ Gimme Shelter. She toured with the band for five years. Her second solo album, The Unexpected was released early 2014 with Prince as its Executive Producer (he also wrote the single under the same name for the album) and with the collaboration of the New Power Generation providing horns. After Prince died, Warfield performed at Celebration 2017, a multi-day tribute to his life and legacy held a year after his death, at Paisley Park.

In 2014 Liv’s performance at the Essence Festival was acclaimed by both critics & fans as one of the most outstanding shows in the history of the New Orleans festival. She is one of the artists who participated in Prince’s album with unreleased material by him, titled Welcome 2 America; as well as collaborating in the new disc by the French group Joon Moon. She is currently recording her new album due to be released at the beginning of the year 2022, from which her first single Mantra is out now.
