The final stage of the Festival Canarias Jazz & Más comes to Lanzarote, La Palma and Fuerteventura

Lanzarote, La Palma & Fuerteventura join the programme for the 29th edition of the Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Mas in a final phase full of excellent musical groups, who will travel to the islands paying a visit to the best auditoriums, theatres and public squares, while also complying with all the legally established health safety protocols, at each & every venue. Nights’ entertainment of jazz with fusion of diverse styles, such as flamenco, Latin-jazz & funk, performed by top level local, national & international artists.

On Thursday 13 at the El Salinero Theatre (Arrecife, 20.30 hours) the festival will present the Flamenco singer & saxophonist Antonio Lizana (San Fernando, Cádiz, 1983). He has collaborated with artists like Arturo O’Farrill & Alejandro Sanz in productions that have won Grammy awards; also with Snarky Puppy, Marcus Miller, Chano Domínguez, Alfredo Rodríguez, Ari Hoenig, Jorge Drexler, India Martínez, Jorge Pardo, Shai Maestro, Chambao, José Mercé, Josemi Carmona, Carmen Linares, Pepe Habichuela…. He now presents in his fourth studio album titled Una realidad diferente, nine outstanding pieces in which Antonio’s two strongest passions come together, jazz & flamenco. The collaboration of the American singer & composer Becca Stevens, is an outstanding feature of the disc with the song titled Carry you. In his quintet Lizana is accompanied by José María Castaño (chorus & dance), David Sancho (piano), Jesús Caparrós (bass) & Shayan Fathi (percussion).

On Friday 14, the public square Plaza de España in Los Llanos de Aridane (La Palma) will be the venue for two extraordinary ensembles, one led by the guitarrist from Gran Canaria Yul Ballesteros and his Canarian Quintet; and the other by Michael League, leader of the famed band Snarky Puppy, who just a week ago teamed up with one of the best current Spanish jazz musicians, Jorge Pardo. League, three-time Grammy winner, has got together a group of friends composed of Magda Giannikou (Banda Magda) keyboard player Justin Stanton (Snarky Puppy) and percussionist Adri Trujillo (Antonio Lizana) to which he has added the renowned Spanish jazz musician Jorge Pardo, who last 25 July Jorge Pardo received the prize Donostiako Jazzaldia awarded by the prestigious San Sebastián Jazz Festival, a prize which is added to others as important as the award for Best European Jazz Musician given by the French Jazz Academy on 15 January 2013 and the award ‘Premio Nacional de las Músicas Actuales’.

Lastly, on Saturday 15, the Auditorio Insular (Island Auditorium) in Puerto del Rosario (Fuerteventura) will open its doors to the groups of Luis Merino and his quartet and the band led by Michael Olivera, The Cuban Jazz Syndicate, with the participation of the brilliant pianist Pepe Rivero; a band with a solid background featuring great Cuban musicians, who will perform on this occasion accompanied by composer & pianist Pepe Rivero.
