The story dates back to the late ‘90s in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, with the creation of the musical group ‘Ondared’, run by Javier Montero (as vibraphonist) and in which two of the current members participated, José Carlos Cejudo (electric bass) & David Quevedo (keyboards). In this band they came up with some of the musical ideas that are still valid today for the current sound and style of the group called ‘Surgere’.
The band took its first steps around 1998. The development of rhythms, harmony & melodies over the course of this first cycle brought about its own style that Javier Montero crystallised in ‘Ondared’, which rested until 2007; the year it became active again. As the first step of this new stage he recorded a CD titled ‘Ondas’, recalling the name of the first work. He recorded the disc in 2007 at the ‘III R’ Studios in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and it was mastered at the ‘Systems two’ studios in Brooklyn, New York. The new recording project adopts the name ‘Surgere’ (awaken) referring, once again, to the activity by said band. The repertoire is made up of nine entirely original pieces, composed & arranged by Javier Montero, leader of the group.
