Fuensanta & Louis Cole
Fuensanta Méndez is an artist from the water forest of Veracruz [Mexico] who lives in Amsterdam. Her music is rooted in poetry & improvisation, like a crystal ball to help open a surreal vision about the things of the world. Singer, bassist & composer, she was born and raised in an artistic family, surrounded by traditional Latin-American & European music, dance, theatre & books. At the age of thirteen she decided to be a singer and started studying & playing jazz; at fifteen she began writing poetry.
After winning the ‘Princess Christina Jazz Concours’ in 2016, she received an invitation to perform with her quintet at the festival ‘North Sea Jazz 2017’. Since then she has performed around Europe and Mexico as a solo artist, bandleader at various functions related to improvised music.
Louis Cole is a musician from Los Angeles. His mission is to create deep feelings through music. Cole started playing the drums when he was eight years old. His father played the piano and his mother the bass. He graduated at the USC Thornton School of Music in Los Angeles. In 2006 Louis Cole formed a friendship with musician Jack Conte, current member of the duo act ‘Pomplamoose’, and they composed & recorded some songs together.
As soon as he finished his studies he began a parallel career in the course of which he has released four solo albums and another four with ‘Knower’, a group he formed with Genevieve Artadi and began to gain importance within the world of music. Cole is a singer, songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist: he plays drums, the piano, guitar and bass. He has worked with bands and artists such as Snarky Puppy, Thundercat, Brad Mehldau and others.
In his compositions he mixes pop & Jazz and rhythms that also contain elements of funk, electronic music, soul… music that grooves and makes you want to dance. With an irreverent, fun and humorous attitude and aesthetic, where there is also room for social criticism, he looks for the perfect combination in music that combines the creative spirit and freedom of Jazz with the crisp brief forms of pop.
