Alexis Alonso Ensemble

The pianist & composer from Tenerife , Alexis Alonso has firmly become established as one of the most essential names on the Spanish jazz scene.

The successes of his latest works, both as a piano soloist (‘Love In Floating Bridges’, 2021), as well as with his band – Alexis Alonso Quartet (‘Out’, 2020) and in addition, with the level of his collaborators (Seamus Blake, Jorge Pardo, Ralph Alessi, Marco Mezquida & Pedrito Martínez), makes him deserving of a status gained on the base of work & constant recognition by the audience & critics. A creator with great experiences in his personal & artistic backpack. Someone who firmly believes that things “happen for a reason” and that “music is meaningless without feeling…”.

‘Alexis Alonso Ensemble’ is a staging of the tour ‘Out’ (Alexis Alonso Quartet) in a formation made up of ten musicians, where the ‘wind’, ‘strings’ & percussion add to the innovative sound of the Canarian pianist’s band and where the cello of Ciro Hernández, Roberto Amor’s drums & José Carlos Machado on contrabass, will navigate once again along with Alexis Alonso’s melodies and the magic of his piano.

After a brilliant and prolific career path between composing musical scores for films, rock & jazz, Alexis Alonso surprised everyone in 2014 with the release of his first piano solo album, titled ‘El Paisaje’, with great critical support and public success that followed ‘The Birth of Time’ (2016), which went a step further when it was presented in London with a great reception.

In 2018 he released the first album with his own formation (Alexis Alonso Quartet) titled ‘In’, followed by ‘Jamboree Live 19’, a live disc chosen by the legendary Barcelona Hall as one of the most outstanding performances of the year, and the afore-mentioned ‘Out’ (2020), in which world jazz stars collaborated, such as Seamus Blake, Ralph Alessi & Pedrito Martínez. With the Alexis Alonso Quartet, and its unique sound featuring the texture of the cello, his career path just keeps growing, being the recipient of several important nominations (‘MIN’ Awards in 2019, Canary Islands Music Awards…).

With ‘Love in Floating Bridges’ (2021) and his duo act with Jorge Pardo, Alonso returned to a more intimate and introspective atmosphere; a quest for new musical languages, which together with the work with his quartet and this great “ensemble” that he presents at the ‘Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más’, displays a wide palette of colours which is endorsed by the most important thing for a musician, the affection and applause of the audience & recognition by the connoisseur press. The pianist & composer from Tenerife continues in his musical search through sensitivity and passion, firmer with each step taken within the national & international jazz scene.
