Jonathan Kreisberg Quartet
Guitarist and composer Jonathan Kreisberg has built a strong worldwide following and has influenced the next generation of musicians with his unique combination of timeless melodicism and forward thinking lines and textures. He is known as a player who has thoroughly studied the language of jazz while enriching it with fresh new ideas, expanding the possibilities of the guitar. Jonathan has led various groups with star musicians and has performed as a sideman with such notable musicians as Lonnie Smith, Joe Locke, Ari Hoenig, Yosvany Terry, Larry Grenadier, Bill Stewart, Gary Versace, Will Vinson, Kevin Hays, Mark Ferber, Matt Penman, and Martin Bejerano, among others.
Kreisberg has released 11 critically acclaimed CDs, including The South of Everywhere, Shadowless, One (his first solo guitar-only recording), Wave Upon Wave, Kreisberg Meets Veras, and Capturing Spirits – JKQ Live. He has received the ASCAP Plus Award annually for the past 15 years.
For a period of 12 years, Jonathan was also a frequent collaborator with NEA Jazz Master Dr. Lonnie Smith, who says of Kreisberg, “He’s a passionate musician with great vision, and he’s constantly innovating.” Jonathan has worked as a performer and co-producer on Dr. Smith’s recent works for Blue Note Records. He has performed 20th century works with the New World Symphony under Michael Tilson Thomas.
In addition to his work as a jazz composer, his music has been featured in many scores for Playwrights Horizon in New York City, the Goodman Theatre in Chicago & Hartford Stage. Jonathan is also a respected educator with over 20 years of experience. In 2017, he published his first book of compositions & transcriptions, Offerings of Note and founded Exporations of Note, a unique online music education programme for advanced players, as well as a series of instructional videos called Polyrthythmic Guitar.
