ADÉDÈJÌ is the new phenomenon of Afro Funk in Nigeria, nominated as Best Artist 2023 by Songlines, and the recent album Yoruba Odyssey is among the 50 best albums of 2023 on World Music Charts Europe & Transglobal World Music Charts. His music is a contemporary mix of Yoruba rhythms with Afro Funk and Jazz, but at the same time has a totally personal musical style, rooted in complex Nigerian rhythms and choirs, respecting his roots while taking the music to a contemporary, futuristic level with a show and performance that can be compared with artists like Prince and Earth Wind and Fire. A show like a volcanic explosion that is hard to stand still to, prompting the audience to sing along as if they already knew the music well. Adédèjì is an indispensable artist to feature at any current festival.
After an incredible breakthrough with live concerts at Europe’s biggest festivals in 2023, like Roskilde, Afrika Festival Hertme and Sfinks, Adédèjì was selected to showcase at Visa for Music 2023 and MASA 2024. The performances have led to him going on tour in 2024 and 2025 in Europe, Canada, USA & Latin America. Each of Adédèjì’s band-members are musicians with their own solo careers, but when they come together to perform Adédèjì masterful arrangements, the stage gets set on fire.
Yoruba Odyssey, Adédèjì’s latest album, is a project that goes back to the very core of his roots. The result is a progressive Jazz-Funk record, influenced with vintage Afrobeat and Yoruba eclectic sounds, that greatly reflects Adedeji’s growing-up in the metropolitan city of Lagos. An album with ten educating, entertaining, feel good & funky tracks, that chronicles his interpretation of the music and artists that has influenced Adédèjì. From Soul, to Jazz, to Blues, to Funk, to the Traditional Yoruba music he grew up with. Yoruba Odyssey was recorded during 3 days in Lagos, Nigeria, at the legendary Afrodisia/Decca Studio, that has housed giants like Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, Ebenezer Obey and many more.
