Avishai Cohen and the voices of Sinne Eeg, Tony Desare & Bette Smith take over

The second batch of concerts at this 28th Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken stages sessions where, on the one hand, the more classic aspects of jazz will feature, with performances by the acclaimed contrabassist Avishai Cohen and his Trio, vocalists Sinne Eeg (with Peter Sprague on guitar) Tony Desare and trumpet player Marquis Hill; while on the other, the energetic & foot-stomping sound of soul, more festive, by the American Bette Smith and her band. Concerts for this weekend, which will be held on the islands of Gran Canaria, Tenerife & Fuerteventura, with venues at public squares, theatres & auditoriums in the municipalities of La Laguna, Adeje, Santa Brígida, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and Puerto del Rosario.

On the island of Tenerife, on Thursday 11 July, in the Theatre Leal of La Laguna (20.30 hours) the festival Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken will present a concert featuring the new disc by the Avishai Cohen Trio, titled Arvoles. The concerts programmed for Friday 11 & Saturday 12 July, will take place in the public square C.C. Salytién, in the municipality of Adeje, and on the first day will feature performances by the Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg with guitarrist Peter Sprague and the American singer Tony Desare with his quartet; the local band from Tenerife ST Fusion and trumpeter Marquis Hill with his ensemble Blacktet will close the musical activities for the second weekend on this island, to be staged also in Adeje on Saturda 13.

Theatre Guiniguada will be the venue for the start of the concerts on the island of Gran Canaria – this Thursday 11 at 20.30 hours, with a double programme featuring Sinne Eeg & Peter Sprague and Tony Desare. On Friday 12, the venue for the festival moves to the Alfredo Kraus Auditorium for another double-feature concert: Marquis Hill Blacktet in the Chamber Hall, at 20.30 hours and the Avishai Cohen Trio in Jazz Corner/Rincón del Jazz (Jerónimo Saavedra Hall), at 22.00 hours; (a reminder that tickets for both concerts are available at a reduced price). On Saturday, in the municipal park – Parque Municipal de Santa Brígida (20.30 hours & free-entrance), there will be performances by the Rayko León Quartet, featuring his new album and American soul singer Bette Smith with her band.

In Fuerteventura, on Saturday 13 (20.30 hours), at the venue ‘Palacio de Formación y Congresos de Puerto del Rosario’, the festival Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken will stage two top-notch concerts, featuring performances by Avishai Cohen and the duet of vocalist Sinne Eeg & guitarrist Peter Sprague.

There will be around 50 concerts staged under the title of the Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken; made possible for yet another year by the collaboration of the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Brígida, Puerto del Rosario & Los Llanos de Aridane; and the sponsorship of the Canarian Government and the Island Councils of Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, Fuerteventura & Lanzarote, Casa África, the Adán Martín Auditorium of Tenerife, the Auditorium & Theatre Foundation of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Theatres Leal & Guiniguada. Organised by Colorado Producciones, yet another edition has received the sponsorship of the company Heineken.
