Puertas al Sur 5Tet
‘Puertas al Sur 5Tet’ is a production by ‘Mousikê La Laguna’ integrated into their project TIEMPO (Trabajo de Investigación y Evolución de las Músicas Populares - Research & Evolution of Popular Music Work), now also framed in Mousikê’s new path, which under the name of ‘ColomboCana Space’ born as the project that aims to transfer Colombian culture to the Canary Islands and vice versa, in order to promote the increase of knowledge and experiences of its population. All this with the guarantee of ‘Mousikê La Laguna’, the association which for the past 13 uninterrupted years, has been developing important pedagogical work and various cultural activities in the Canary Islands, but also on the other side of the Atlantic as is the case with their incursions into the United States or in Colombia, the country which in recent years has undertaken pedagogical ventures such as lectures & masterclasses in relation to Canarian music culture and/or concerts such as those offered by the Simbeque Project bands or the aforementioned ‘Puertas al Sur’.
With everything, Puertas al Sur 5Tet is a celebration of Afro-Latin rhythms like the cumbia, the festejo, the bomba & la plena through the bold & colourful vision of the band members. Musicians of recognized & extensive artistic career paths at local, national & international level who have carried out research among fascinating archives of stories & legends full of purity. Pure inspiration they all share, with careful staging, in each of their concerts.
‘Puertas al Sur’ released their first album in 2015, and presented it at the most important festivals of the Canary Islands Archipelago. At that time they were performing as a duo. “Puertas Adentro’”came about in 2017, already as a trio, and was presented at the ‘TEDx La Laguna’ and later at #fmac2017, the XII Edition of the ‘Festival de Músicas Alternativas de Canarias’. It was also presented in La Palma, and was selected for the museum ‘Casa de Colón’ in Gran Canaria as the star feature in the celebrations of International Museums Day 2018 where in addition to the concert they also conducted a workshop. Furthermore, among others, they took the stage at the 30th anniversary of the ‘Festival Venegueras’ as well as at the ‘Museo del Timple’ in Teguise, Lanzarote.
