MÓNICA SANTANA

MÓNICA SANTANA

Influenced by singers like Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, & Dinah Washington, Mónica Santana has closely followed the careers of other great female instrumentalists, currently positioning herself as a jazz singer & composer in the Canary Islands.

In her second album, Imaginemos que…, (‘Let’s Imagine that…’) released by Colorado Producciones at the end of 2023 and which she presented at the Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz & Más, she renders her own pieces, thus departing from the standards, adding special value to this project.

Sung in Spanish, Mónica Santana contributes with her music to the dissemination of this language in the jazz universe. And conveys her emotions and experiences, not only with universal themes such as love or disaffection, but by promoting solidarity among women through her lyrics.

“Music,” she says, “is nothing but love in its multiple renditions. I feel love when I compose, when I sing, when I manage to finish a song because it is my fruit, it is born from me, but I need to share it, otherwise, what would be the point?”
