Barrios, a saxophonist linked to the world of jazz since his beginnings, has been a member of several pioneering groups in the field of Latin Jazz and Fusion. In this field he has participated in projects such as ‘Jazztamos’, ‘La Banda de Jazz Latino’ & ‘La Ferretería.’ He has played in several Latin music bands, including ‘Guayaba’, ‘Genética’, ‘Caramelo y el tren del sabor’, ‘Moise González’, ‘Son Iyá Orquesta’, among others. In his long musical career, he has had the opportunity to work with both national and international groups, including artists such as Roberto Blades, Marvin Santiago, Issac Delgado, Armando Manzanero, Olga Guillot, etc.

In 1988 he participated at the National Jazz Show (Muestra Nacional de Jazz) for young performers, held in Ibiza and later performed at the Las Palmas Jazz Show (Muestra de Jazz) in 1990, where he won first prize as a soloist. In 1996 important things occured in his career, among them being the scholarship he received from the Berklee College of Music.

From that moment on, he began participating in countless international jazz festivals with different formations, among those that stand out: La Ferretería, Atcheré, Larry Jean Louis, A. Westeropp, Dr. Bacteria and the Big Band of trumpeter René González. It was in the year 2000 that he created his own jazz quartet “Fernando Barrios Quartet”, participating that same year in the ‘Festival de Jazz de Canarias’ (Canary Islands Jazz Festival).
