JM Churchi
This a musical group of Latin jazz led by drummer José Miguel Ménez, Churchi. Its music portrays Caribbean rhythms incorporating structures related to modern jazz, with special emphasis placed on solos & improvisation.
The group is very much on the rise, even in times of the global pandemic which had a direct effect on cultural activities and especially the music sector, and they have known how to adapt and mature an album full of Latin nuances & Caribbean rhythms creating a top quality Latin Jazz album. The members of this band have extensive career paths in countless formations, recordings and tours.
José Miguel Méndez (Churchi) was born in Tenerife (Spain) in 1967. Musician by profession, he began playing the drums at the age of nine. From there, he developed his career in local groups & orchestras until jazz crossed his path and he embarked on his way to improvisation. He has played with ‘La Banda de Jazz Latino, Ñus, Garabato, with the Cuban pianist Javier Masso ‘Caramelo’ and recorded his first disc with JC Machado, Augusto Báez & Kike Perdomo, and performed alongside Jorge Pardo, Perico Sambeat, Torsten de Winkel, Chiqui Pérez Quartet, Thesaurus Quartet, Agustín Carló, Polo Orti, Big Band Swing de Canarias, La Ferretería Jazz Band, Baba Djembe, A M Big Band, Machuca Trío, Three Jazz, Fernando Barrios Quintet, Heineken Jazz Band, The Original Big Band, Debora Quattrini Quartet, Samuel Labrador Trío, BvJazz Trío, etc.
