La Graciosa will stage a concert for the first time in the Festival Canarias Jazz & Más Heineken

More than 40 concerts and 26 groups distributed at venues on six islands, with a first-time experience for La Graciosa, summarises the frenetic activity from 7 to 23 July on offer at the Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz&Más Heineken for its loyal fans & music lovers. This year, among the artists programmed are some outstanding figures of the genre; well-known artists such as Bill Frisell, Ivan Lins, Maria Joao, Bill Evans & Dean Brown, and Palo! combined with other promising young ones considered to be among the best groups of contemporary music today, like Jacob Collier, Cory Henry, Becca Stevens, Alfredo Rodríguez, Charenée Wade, King Solomon Hicks and the members of Woman to Woman, authentic stars of jazz music, Renee Rosnes, Cécile McLorin Salvant, Anat Cohen, Melissa Aldana, Ingrid Jensen, Noriko Ueda and Allisson Miller.
The Festival once again also confides in the seemingly endless supply of local & national talent, as well as two Angolan bands who are the star attraction on ‘Africa Night’, Totó ST and Elenco Da Paz, together with another group based in Gran Canaria, Souñou Yon (Nuestro Camino). Ximo Tebar, Paco Perera, Polo Ortí Group, BlueInGreen, Powafunk, Xerach Peñate, JM Churchi & Son de la Tierra, Tirando Onda, Gran Canaria Big Band, Banadú and the tribute Ella at 100, The Latin Side of Ella Fitzgerald complete the superb list of concerts programmed.
This morning, at the premises The House by Heineken (Palacio de Carta), Miguel Ramírez (Colorado Producciones) presented details of the Festival at a press conference. Those in attendance were Laura Docampo, in charge of communications for the festival’s chief sponsor, Heineken; Aurelio González (viceconsejero de Cultura del Gobierno de Canarias – Vice Secretary for Culture at the Canarian Government); Sandra Rodríguez González (primera teniente de alcalde y concejala de Gestión Económica, Socio Cultural y Nuevas Tecnoclogías – First Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Economic Management, Social Culture & New Technology of Puerto de la Cruz); José Carlos Acha (concejal Cultura – Councillor for Culture of Santa Cruz de Tenerife); Alfonso Cabello (concejal de Promoción Económica, Empleo, Turismo y Comercio – Councillor for Economic Promotion, Employment, Tourism & Commerce of Santa Cruz de Tenerife); María José Castañeda (concejala de Cultura, Economía, Empresa, Empleo y Turismo – Councillor for Culture, Economy, Business, Employment & Tourism of La Laguna); Ermitas Moreira (concejala de Política Turística, Urbanismo y Accesibilidad – Councillor for Tourist Policy, Urbanism & Accessibility of Adeje); Óscar Pérez (consejero de Cultura del Cabildo – Councillor for Culture at the Island Council of Lanzarote); and Rafael González Robayna (teniente alcalde y concejal de Turismo, Comercio, Sanidad, Vivienda, Medio Ambiente y Playas – Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Tourism, Commerce, Health, Housing, Environment & Beaches of Arrecife, Lanzarote).
Ramírez expressed his wish “once more to surprise with new trends, we have prepared a programme featuring innovating artists who act as references for the present and the furure, some of whom have been awarded Grammy’s recently”. But not to forget “the great stars of jazz music, top billing figures, who combine in the programme with others whom we remain loyal to, the Canarian musicians, both those who are based here on the islands as well as others who have taken up residence abroad, keeping their groups active. For yet another year, included in the programme, is a an evening dedicated to Noche de África (Africa Night), on this occasion featuring two groups from Angola”.
Another novelty is the inclusion of the municipality of Adeje, which will stage two days of concerts; the consolidation of the Festival’s other regular venues, like Puerto de la Cruz, La Laguna & Santa Brígida, a new venture in La Palma & Lanzarote, and once again paying-entrance concerts at the principal premises in the Canaries.
The Festival Internacional Canarias Jazz&Más Heineken will cover the islands of La Palma, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and for the first time La Graciosa, where it will plant its seed. An event made possible due to the collaboration by the municipalities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Santa Lucía de Tirajana, Santa Brígida, Puerto del Rosario, Arrecife Teguise & Los Llanos de Aridane; and the sponsorship by the Canarian Government, the Cabildos (Island Councils) of Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote & Fuerteventura, the Town Halls of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Arrecife, Puerto del Rosario, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Lucia de Tirajana, Santa Brigida & Los Llanos de Aridane, Casa África, the Adán Martín Auditorium in Tenerife, the Auditorium & Theatre Foundation of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and the Leal, Guimerá & Guiniguada Theatres.
